Our philosophy of faith.
Spreading the Love of God and Meeting Human Needs has been the two-fold vision of City Mission from the beginning. Our Christian faith mandates that we do both in equal portions. We find the basis of this mandate in the scriptures.
“What use is it, my brothers, for a man to say that he has faith, if he does nothing? will such a faith give him salvation? If a brother or a sister is without clothing and in need of the day’s food, And one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warm and full of food; but you do not give them the things of which their bodies have need, what profit is there in this? Even so faith without works is dead.” (James 2:14-17)
With this wisdom to guide us, City Mission has endeavored to maintain a balance of spiritual emphasis with practical ministry. We do not just want to say, “God loves you,” we want to show God’s love.
All of our client services are providing free of charge. Once again we find our inspiration for this in the Bible. “For God so loved the world that He gave….” City Mission provides food, clothing, shelter, medical attention education – and yes, love – for thousands of Papua New Guineans every year.
We understand that simple humanitarian efforts do not fulfill the Christian mandate. Jesus asked a significant question. “What profit has a man if he gets all the world with the loss of his life? And what would a man give in exchange for his life?” ((Mark 8:36-37 Bible in Basic English)
All of our services are provided within a framework of Christian faith and love. We emphasize God’s love and encourage spiritual development and devotion to God without requiring anyone to accept any specific belief or faith.
